Abstract:In 2017,Russia was the rotating presidency of the CIS and Russia made increasing the work efficiency of the CIS as a priority. The objectives of Russia's policies toward CIS was to unite most of the countries in the post-Soviet space. On the one hand, the Eurasian Economic Union was the main carrier for the economic development of the Commonwealth of Independent States. In 2017,the foreign trade value of the Eurasian Economic Union increased significantly on year-by-year basis, its connection with the outside world became increasingly closer and the docking between the Eurasian Economic Union and One Belt and Road made great progresses. On the other hand, security cooperation was an important issue for the CIS mechanism. CIS countries relied on the Collective Security Treaty Organization to increase their security cooperation. Russia-Ukraine relations remained tense and the security situation in Central Asia was problematic. Moldova's turn to the Eurasian Economic Union was not smooth due to the differences in the country. The U. S. -led NATO's meddling of Ukraine issues was a microcosm of Western interference in the affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was one of the important reasons for the direct confrontation between Russia and the West. The relations between Russia and NATO will continue to deteriorate and it is difficult to mitigate in the short term.
