2023年意大利外交：在雄心与务实之间妥协

Abstract:Since the election in October 2022，Italian Prime Minister Meloni has received attention for her background as a head of a far-right party. In terms of foreign policy，the Meloni government has largely followed the line of the previous Draghi government，while having its own ambitions on several concrete policies. At the European level，Italy tries to maximize its national interests within the EU framework and has reached some important consensus with the EU. In the Western camp，Italy focused on closer relations with the US and NATO to emphasize its Western identity. There have been some subtle changes in Italy’s policy towards China this year，but the Meloni government does not want to harm the economic and trade ties between the two countries. At the same time，Italy strengthened its security and economic cooperation with Japan and India through its Indo-Pacific strategy. In the Mediterranean region，the Meloni government has taken a two-pronged approach in the areas of immigration and energy，trying to curb illegal immigration，and striving for Italy to become the energy gateway of Europe. The escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict，however，has brought new challenges to Italy’s Mediterranean policy.
