Abstract:The British occupation of Egypt in 1882 was an important event in the history of the British Empire，which changed the international landscape of the entire Middle and Near East. After Olabi’s September remonstrance in 1881，British public opinion began to pay close attention to Egypt，presenting a complex and complex situation，and in essence，the British newspaper was the core of public opinion. After Olabi took power in early 1882，there were two major camps in British public opinion，but the war factions in public opinion carried out a comprehensive suppression of the pacifists. After the Alexander riots，public opinion demanded that Britain alone send troops to solve the Egyptian crisis，but there were few opposing voices. This “consistent” war opinion appeared before the British government made decisions. From the perspective of public opinion formation，studying this event reveals that the British newspaper industry was in a period of “freedom” at this time，but still formed a “consistent” public opinion. The major newspapers in the UK played an important role in shaping public opinion，and the behind the scenes supporters of the major newspapers came from a few British people in Egypt. A few people create public opinion and form the public opinion foundation of “consensus”. Reflect on Western liberal media theory through this case study.
