Abstract:The year 2023 is a vital year for India to exert its international influence,as India assumes the presidency of the Group of Twenty(G20)to advocate Indian agenda. Driven by geopolitical considerations,U.S.-India strategic cooperation shows signs of heating up in 2023,which has a notable impact on China’s external environment. Cooperation between the two countries can be categorized into three major realms:in terms of security, the U.S. and India have made significant progress in technology transfer and reducing India’s militrary dependence on Russian technology;in terms of domestic economic and society, the U.S. has put in place a series of mechanisms to encourage investment and people-to-people exchanges, but there is still disagreement over some of the policy directions;in terms of international governance, the two countries have joined forces to counterbalance China’s influence, but India is still demonstrating a strong degree of diplomatic autonomy. India’s autonomous diplomacy emphasizes competition with China, which contributes to the U.S. strategy of “containing China”,but also provides China with opportunities to launch peace initiatives. Overall, the U.S. and India are accelerating their proximity but have not formed a coherent alliance, and India is still a key country in maintaining a multipolar international order and preventing a head-on conflict between major powers. For China, managing Sino-Indian relations is important for shaping a favorable overseas environment.
