Abstract:Lebanon’s economic crisis that broke out in 2019 is a comprehensive debt，financial，and economic crisis. Its specific manifestation of was determined by the model of economic growth and development in postwar Lebanon. As the foundation of the model can be traced back to division of interests and institutional arrangements reached among core players during the process of war termination and post-war reconstruction，its fundamental flaws were rooted in the asymmetry and fragility of the interdependence between Lebanon and the Gulf states. While post-war Lebanon has endured perpetual economic，development and institutional problems，political coordination among regional powers and the continued inflow of Gulf capital have ensured the resilience of the system. Changes in regional security，economic and geopolitical environment since 2011 increased the burden of Lebanon’s economic system，leading to the politicization of capital inflows from the Gulf，while unfolding inherent problems of the post-war economic model. The escalation of the regional geopolitical rivalry since 2016 led to the complete collapse of the two pillars on which the model has been built，pushing Lebanon inevitably into the abyss of economic crisis.
