Abstract:Recent years have witnessed the rise of Pacific Islands sub-regionalism including that in Melanesia，Polynesia and Micronesia，with Melanesian Spearhead Group，Polynesian Leaders Group and Micronesian Presidents’ Summit as the three main sub-regional organizations or mechanisms all making a series of achievements. In 2020，due to various factors，the three sub-regional organizations or mechanisms all faced new challenges，underwent new changes and made new progress. Meanwhile，the contradictions among the three sub-regions are further highlighted. In particular，the Special Leaders’ Meeting of the Micronesian Presidents’ Summit held in October 2020 formed and expressed Micronesia’s firm position that the new Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum must come from Micronesia.
