Abstract:During the past year，the global political and security situations continued the development trends from the previous year. Although no new major conflicts emerged，there were some changes in the development of the various existing hot issues；they were either resolved，mitigated，or reached a stalemate. With respect to relations among the major countries，Sino-Russian relations are still the best in history；conflicts in Sino-US relations increased，but after Xi Jinping visited the United States，they were effectively channeled into cooperation and dialogue；although the conflicts between Russia and the United States have still not been resolved，cooperation seems to be on the horizon because of the Iranian nuclear issue. In China，the peripheral security situation is remains grim and complicated：it will be difficult to improve Sino-Japanese relations within the short term；however，the disputes over the South China Sea，though still intense and involving other countries，are basically under control. China’s diplomatic initiative to shape its peripheral security environment and its participation in international affairs were significantly enhanced. The “One Belt，One Road” initiative was successfully promoted and periphery diplomacy，summit diplomacy，and multilateral diplomacy achieved positive results，revealing a big-power outlook for China’s diplomacy during the new period.
