Abstract:International and Regional Studies is a new discipline direction under the first-level discipline of Foreign Language. A clarification of its connotation and extension is of crucial importance to the construction of the Foreign Language discipline against the backdrop of New Liberal Arts. At present，to support the Belt and Road initiative and to meet the social，economic and cultural needs at the national and local level，talent cultivation in the field of International and Regional Studies has become a priority for the Foreign Language discipline. To this end，we should establish a scientific disciplinary system of International and Regional Studies，specify the cultivation objectives and specifications，provide a matching curriculum system，and improve the instruction quality，so as to cultivate more talents in International and Regional Studies who are good at languages，familiar with the target countries and areas，and professional in fields and disciplines other than foreign languages.
