Abstract:The continued recovery pace of international direct investment（FDI）in 2019 was interrupted by the global outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development（UNCTAD）predicts that global international direct investment flows in 2020 will drop significantly by 40% compared to 2019. In 2021，the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on demand will cause global international direct investment flows to be further reduced by 5%-10% on the basis of 2020. The impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on international direct investment will be greater than the impact of the 2009 global financial crisis. In the long run，due to the global recession caused by the COVID-19 epidemic，the host country may formulate policies to achieve self-sufficiency in key products and expand the domestic production capacity of strategic industries. These will have a profound impact on future trend of global international direct investment.
