Abstract:2017 celebrated the 15th anniversary of Timor-leste’s independence and the first presidential and parliamentary elections fully organized by itself. The elections were held peacefully and smoothly，but the minority government failed to reach a compromise with the opposition and the president had to dissolve parliament for reelection. Despite the twists and turns of election，Timor-leste enjoys overall political and social stability，progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and economic diversification，and improved social development indicators. It have reached consensus on maritime delimitation with Australia，and its development is strongly supported by international partners. Timor-leste joined AIIB and signed the MOU on cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative （BRI） with China，which marks a new historical stage for both sides.
