Abstract:In ancient,drum to be used for weapon,worship,festival or farming. With the opening of China’s foreign exchange,drum had disseminated and spread overseas with economic and cultural exchanges,including Malaysia. Traditional Chinese drum music had gradually growth in Malaysian Chinese community and reformed and innovated. In 1988,Johor Bahru Association Johor had organized The 9th National Chinese Dancing Festival,the event planner Tan Chai Puan had inspired by the drumming of Nine Lion Drums and to create the 24 Festive Drums by combining the 24 festive from Lunar Calendar and musician Tan Hooi Song’s creation. Thence,the 24 Festive Drums had developed robust and rapidly in Malaysia and become an important performance in welcoming or opening ceremony. The 24 Festive Drums not only enhance the traditional Chinese drum music cultural status,but also enhance the art appreciation value of drum music. However,the development of 24 Festive Drums in Malaysia has been so robust and rapidly because of Malaysia has a very good communication mechanism. Therefore,the 24 Festive Drums has become a brand culture from a team and spread globally. Over the past decade,through students overseas,Malaysia’s festive drums has spread to Singapore,China mainland,Taiwan,Thailand,Indonesia,United State,United Kingdom,Brunei,Australia and around the world. Based on this,this article will focus on the 24 Festive Drums on the traditional Chinese drum music inheritance,innovation and global spread.
