Abstract:The Ukrainian crisis keeps attracting public attention as one of the most complicated events in international history from political, economic, and social points of view. The referendum on the status of the Crimea was one of the critical stages of this crisis, when the media’s interest peaked(Berk,2014). Therefore,we decided to focus on the news stories published before and after the Referendum in the first half of the year(March-June 2014),since they are more relevant in terms of the current political situation:the referendum was held in March,a new set of sanctions was then established by the EU and the US against Russia, and major discussions about the political and economic outcome occurred. The authors came to the conclusion that on the one hand, most of the publications reflected the official position of their governments and repeated the state’s rhetoric, however,on the other hand, not all the the arguments seemed to be one-sided and biased.
