Abstract:In the United Nations Millennium Summit (2000), the leaders set
the eight Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs ), which included eradicating
extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting
gender equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, fighting against HIV / AIDS, malaria and other diseases, and ensuring
environmental sustainability and global partnership for development. All of these goals
should be achieved by 2015. According to the assessment of the MDGs
implementation, the global development has made great progress by 2013, and even
some of the targets have been achieved ahead of the schedule. Meanwhile, the
MDGs project has shown some deficiencies. In order to remedy these deficiencies and
further promote future global development under the framework of the United
Nations, the governments and international agencies have started the study, debate
and negotiations of the post -2015 development agenda, and identified the principles
and framework characterized of human-centered, equitable and sustainable
development and broader development issues. As the largest developing country,
China has been firmly committed to supporting the MDGs, and actively involved in
the negotiations and formulations of the post -2015 development agenda.
