Abstract:Africa registered a robust rebound with growth of 5.0%in 2012，well above the world average，despite the global economic slowdown and high uncertainty. The upward trend is expected to continue in 2013，with growth reaching 4.8%. The key factors underpinning Africa’s strong growth prospect include high commodity demand in the international market，rising domestic demand associated with rising incomes and urbanization，recent discoveries of natural resources，and increasing trade and investment ties with emerging economies. However，this positive growth outlook is subject to several internal and external downside risks，and more efforts are needed to improve the quality of economic growth. Africa’s mid-and-long term prospects depend on the ability of the continent to trigger resource-based industrialization as an engine of sustainable structural transformation and inclusive growth.
