Abstract:The political and security situation of Africa in 2007 remains stable in general and there are no major conflicts and military coups except the long existing chaos in Somalia and Darfur in Sudan. A number of African countries including Nigeria have undertaken the presidential elections successfully and realized the power transitions smoothly. Political democratization with African characteristics represented by “African Peer Review Mechanism” is moving forward steadily even though many difficulties ahead. Preparing to establish the “United States of Africa”，against the establishment of the US “African Command” and pushing the EU-Africa Summit could be regarded as the three big events for strengthening African collective self-reliance in 2007.
