中英关系：稳定中求深化

Abstract:The bilateral relationship between China and the UK has a long history. Being the first major Western country to recognize the People’s Republic of China，the UK has always been attaching great importance to advancing relations with China，especially after the smooth handover of Hong Kong’s sovereignty to China in July 1997，which symbolized a new stage of the bilateral relations. In 2004 the two countries established the comprehensive strategic partnership. In the recent years，the bilateral relationships have been further strengthened in a variety of areas including high-level exchanges and contacts，economic and financial dialogues，cooperation in science and technology，and people-to-people exchanges. However，it must be recognized that twists and turns still exist in the bilateral relations，as manifested by the difficulties confronting the two sides since the second half of the year 2012. It is against this background that this paper makes a comprehensive review and analysis of the China-UK relations in the past ten years as well as a forecast of the future prospect.
