Abstract:African music is rich in variety，style and rhythm. Unique intervals，gorgeous rhythm combinations，appropriate relationships between lyrics and tunes，and wonderful link of music and dance constitute the distinctive artistic characteristics of African music in terms of melody，harmony，polyphony，and relationships between lyrics and tunes. During the slave trade，African music began to take root in the North America with great difficulty，fusing with Indian indigenous music and European artistic music. As a result，abundant new varieties and styles of music with African genes were produced. Jazz is one of the representatives，and with its global popularity，African music has been spreading around the world，which in turn influences the development of contemporary music all over the world.
