Abstract:Amid a sluggish global economic recovery and intensifying competition in science and technology,China’s digital economy in 2023 has emerged as a crucial driver of high-quality development. Despite a further slowdown in its growth rate this year, the digital economy’s total scale reached 55 trillion yuan, accounting for 45.8% of GDP,thereby serving as a significant “accelerator” for economic and social advancement. The intelligent manufacturing industry is expanding steadily, with lighthouse factories demonstrating significant positive effects. Moreover, rural online retail is growing rapidly, and new digital consumption trends are becoming increasingly diverse. However, the gap in digital development between first-tier and second- and third-tier cities has widened further. Although some innovation indicators showed negative growth for the first time,China maintains a top position in global digital innovation. Leading companies in the digital economy continue to exhibit high levels of innovation vitality. Additionally, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is reshaping the labor market, establishing digital labor as a fourth mode of employment for enterprises. In terms of digital governance, the integration of digital government initiatives has accelerated, the regulation of data elements has improved, and comprehensive cyberspace governance has become more effective. Considering the rapid changes in both domestic and international contexts, key priorities for the future development of China’s digital economy will include strengthening innovation in digital technologies to enhance new productivity, fully unlocking the potential of data elements, and improving the sense of gain within the digital society.
