Abstract:In September 2024，the Earth Commission published an assessment report on planetary boundaries in The Lancet Planetary Health，exploring the impacts of human activities on the Earth’s environment. The report highlights that humanity has crossed 7 out of 8 planetary boundaries，including climate change and ecosystem integrity. This paper summarizes the assessment’s background，emphasizing the environmental pressures driven by global economic and population growth and the severe ecological challenges faced by humanity. The concept of planetary boundaries underscores the critical role of humanity in maintaining ecological balance and calls for equitable and just resource distribution to uphold human dignity and alleviate poverty. Additionally，this paper discusses the evolution of planetary boundaries and their relationship with the “Anthropocene，” revealing how human activities have become the dominant force in environmental changes. It emphasizes the importance of harmonious coexistence with nature and urges the application of these research findings to achieve sustainable development，fostering positive interactions and coexistence between humanity and nature.
