Abstract:South Africa as the core driving force of scientific and technological innovation to promote national development，and has shown a steady development trend in the field of scientific and technological innovation in recent years. In order to meet the challenges，the South African government has formulated a comprehensive scientific and technological development plan and policy，which provides a solid guarantee for deepening cooperation in scientific and technological innovation with the BRICS. However，in recent years，there has been a slight decline in R&D investment，scientific research infrastructure level，and innovation output. South Africa holds a positive attitude towards cooperation with China and other BRICS. The two countries have continued to implement the consensus on scientific and technological innovation cooperation，overcome difficulties，make innovations，and further promote practical cooperation in space science，energy technology，biotechnology and other fields，achieving remarkable results. With the addition of new members to the BRICS，the cooperation in scientific and technological innovation will reach a new level，and the development of scientific and technological innovation in South Africa and the cooperation between China and South Africa will usher in more opportunities.
