Abstract:Belarus has always viewed the SCO positively and has grown closer to the SCO since it applied for membership in 2005，becoming a dialogue partner in 2009 and an observer in 2015. In July 2022，Belarus officially submitted its application to become a member state. The Summit of Heads of State of Samarkand initiated the procedure for Belarus to join the SCO as a full member. Belarus’ interests in joining the SCO are：to circumvent Western sanctions by expanding economic cooperation；Break through the political isolation of the West，promote political security；and promote the diversification and balance of foreign cooperation by expanding political cooperation；Promote national security through expanded security cooperation. At present，all SCO member states support Belarus becoming a full member，and it is expected that Belarus will achieve its goal of becoming a full member in 2024.
