Abstract:As the world’s largest island at the junction of the North Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean,Greenland has essential strategic value due to its unique geographical location and rich natural resources. In 2022,Greenland was striving to maintain bilateral cooperation with other States in various fields, mainly economy and science. In the economic field,Greenland signed the Declaration of Cooperation which identified the economy as a priority area with Iceland, and began to negotiate with the United Kingdom for a Free Trade Agreement. Besides,it successfully won the control of the maintenance contract for the United States Thule Air Base. In the scientific research field,Greenland established a new research partnership with Iceland by signing a Memorandum of Understanding, and cooperated with Switzerland on scientific research to combat the effects of climate change. Besides,Austria established a permanent polar research station in East Greenland. The new progress of Greenland’s participation in bilateral cooperation in the Arctic is mainly driven by internal factors include its rich natural resources and pursuit of economic development,as well as external factors include the impacts of climate change and the challenges of the complex international circumstances. China and Greenland had a certain basis for bilateral cooperation in mineral resources exploitation, infrastructure construction, scientific research, and other fields. China and Greenland can further strengthen bilateral cooperation in economic affairs and scientific research in the future.
