Abstract:Since 2020,a series of anti-China measures promoted by the Morrison government in Australia has pushed bilateral relation into a new spiral of deterioration. In 2021,the trend of continuous deterioration continued further, which put the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia in an unprecedented serious crisis. Australia reacted violently to the anti-dumping measures taken by China, and even put forward the idea of “decoupling” from China. Moreover, the Morrison government strengthened the so-called “security review” of foreign investment by amending the foreign investment law, which brought great uncertainty to the economic and trade relations between the two countries. Although bilateral trade value of goods was still growing in numbers, and the entry into force of RCEP has brought new opportunities to the two countries, the trade structure has begun to change. At the same time, the COVID-19 epidemic prevented Chinese tourists and students going to Australia,as a result,Australian’s service trade in tourism and international education were greatly impacted. In the field of security,Morrison’s government intervened in Taiwan affairs with high profile, advocating that it was ready to participate in the “war with China”,which promoted the intensification of regional tensions. Under the quadrilateral security mechanism,Australia not only strengthened its coordinated actions with the United States and other countries under the framework of “Indo-Pacific Strategy”,but more importantly, established trilateral security partnership with the United States and UK which was obviously targeted at China. These relevant diplomatic measures of Morrison’s government have had an important negative impact on bilateral relations,as well as the peace and stability of the whole region.
