Abstract:In 2022，then-Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob pursued a policy of balanced engagement in dealing with major powers. Malaysia actively sought to join the US-led Indo-Pacific Economic Framework to gain trade advantages，refrained from condemning or isolating Russia in the Russo-Ukrainian war，showed reluctance in explicitly supporting Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific initiative，and experienced a gradual improvement in its relationship with China. Following the national election held in November，the new Prime Minister，Anwar Ibrahim，made his first visit to China and advocated for the joint establishment of the Asian Monetary Fund to reduce dependence on the US dollar. Malaysia strengthened its diplomatic exchanges with ASEAN and the Islamic world，while maintaining opposition to the trilateral security partnership known as AUKUS，formed by the UK，the US，and Australia.
