Abstract:It is a necessity for China’s economic and trade development and a new requirement of global economic order to further expand opening-up and balance trade development. However，since the global financial crisis in 2008，the global trade cooperation system has encountered a growing systematic crisis，and the global trade cooperation system with WTO at the center is shaking. China International Import Expo （CIIE）is the only import-themed national-level expo so far which realizes significant innovations in both concept and institution. The innovations lay a solid foundation for the building of a new global trade cooperation platform，though more work is still needed. On one hand，the CIIE needs a reasonable mid-long term development plan dedicated to promoting China’s status in international trade，upgrading of structural transformation of international trade，and coordination and optimization of international trade policies；on the other hand，a new global trade platform should be built around the CIIE，and institutional design should be strengthened with stress on the construction and perfection of a structurally balanced promotion platform，third-party trade matching platform，industry trade information communication platform，new global trade governance platform and new functional trade platform.
