Abstract:Since the “Arab Spring”，the UAE has changed its role from a participant in geopolitics to a shaper of regional order，and from a consumer to a provider of security public goods，in response to the internal and external threats posed by changes in the regional order and pattern. At the domestic level，Mohammed bin Zayed has been fighting political dissent and political Islam with an iron fist；actively promoting the nationalization of religion，strengthening state dominance of religious affairs，spreading moderate doctrines and promoting tolerance；and strengthening national identity building and enhancing cyber security capabilities. At the regional level，he has been cooperating with the U.S. and other allies in regional counter-terrorism operations；relying on security partners such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt to coordinate their positions in regional operations；and enhancing military capacity building and actively conducting overseas military operations. Overall，the adjustments of UAE’s national security strategy and regional policies have been heavily influenced by the decision-making preferences of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi，with a strong personal touch.
