超越“传统—现代”的两分法——印度伊斯兰改革复兴运动德欧班德运动研究

Abstract:The Deobandi movement is a modern religious reformist and revivalist movement named after the Darul Uloom Deoband. It is one of the many responses made by Indian Ulema on how to carry on the legacy of Sirhindi and others and reform and revive Islam to respond to the challenge of modernization in the era of expanding European colonialism. Darul Uloom Deoband not only inherits the tradition of Islamic education in India，but also learns from the experiences of western-style schools，and reforms the teaching system according to the changing circumstances. The Deobandi movement established a modern and international network of Islamic institutes that greatly influenced the spread of Islam and the political Islamism. However，the Deobandi movement cannot be summarized using the existing labels such as traditionalism，modernism and secularism. It inherits the inherent reformist and revivalist calls of Islam and responds to the challenge of modernization in a modern way. The study of Hindu culture that has deeply examined the problem of “modern-tradition” can help us understand the Deobandi movement and then reflect on the “tradition-modern” dichotomy that takes enlightenment reason as the only yardstick. This can further help us deepen the study of religious revivalism and religious nationalism in other eastern countries.
