Abstract:The Abraham Accords involving Israel，the United Arab Republic（UAE）and Bahrain was the most important foreign policy accomplishment of President Trump’s first term. It doubled the number of Arab states recognizing and normalizing relations with Israel. The Accords generated widespread bi-partisan approval in the United States and in Israel. This report examines the potential influence of the Abraham Accords’ agreements for politics in the Middle East，the Israeli-Palestinian conflict，and for Israel. It is based on a review of media coverage of the Accords. It begins with a brief history of President Donald Trump’s earlier Middle East policies involving Israel，the Palestinian and Iran. It then examines the development of the Abraham Accords. This is followed by an analysis of the potential consequences of the Accords on relations between Israel and Arab states and on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It discusses whether the Arab “street” in the UAE and Bahrain will embrace the normalization that their leaders made with Israel and if other Arab states will join the Accords. It closes with a comment on how the Accords might affect the sustainability of Israel as a Jewish and democratic political entity.
