Abstract:The commercial development of mineral resources in most African countries is closely connected with western colonialism，and Nigeria is no exception. After Nigeria became a British colony，British companies began commercial development of tin ores on Jos Plateau in Nigeria. During the period of colonial development，Nigeria had the largest number of workers employed in the development of tin mines in West Africa. It has also attracted a large amount of western capital investment. At its peak，Nigeria produced a fifth of the world’s tin ore. This paper intends to analyze the economic，social and environmental impacts of the development of tin mining in Nigeria during the British colonial period.
