Abstract:The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 has been the biggest variable affecting the political dynamics in Italy. In the short term, the pandemic has not devastated the current Italian government, and support for the ruling parties remains stable. After its States-General,the Five Star Movement’s general direction for further cooperation with the Democratic Party was decided, which further strengthened the stability of the government. On the opposition side, the weakening of the League and the strengthening of the Brothers of Italy at the same time have managed to keep the Center-Right coalition strong. After the “Election Day”,the referendum on the reduction of parliamentary seats was passed by an overwhelming majority, and the game over the new electoral law “Brescellum” is already on. As for the regional elections, the Democratic Party and the Center-Right coalition have each won three regions, while the Five Star Movement has still failed. In the long run,the future of Italy’s political dynamics will first of all depend on the effectiveness of the government’s measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recovery of the economy;Secondly, the 2021 municipal elections will continue to be the battlefield between the ruling parties and the Center-Right coalition; At last, the growing personal political influence of the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has made him an important player in Italy’s political arena.
