2018～2019年中澳关系发展状况与分析

Abstract:China and Australia have experienced turbulent bilateral ties in the year of 2018-2019，which has to a large extent spoiled the exchanges between two countries. Even though Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison tried to hold out an olive branch to China to ease the tension，limited progress has been made. This paper argues that the unstable domestic politics in Australia and Canberra’s distrust of China’s rapid rise and its Belt and Road Initiatives are still the main causes of the current setback in the China-Australia relations. How these two countries see each other is also influenced by the latest development in world politics. Despite that it is unlikely to witness a rapid paced diplomatic thaw between two sides within a short period of time，the bilateral tie is not going to deteriorate either. The strategy of cooperative competition is likely to be the best strategy for both Chinese and Australian leaders to maximize their own national interests in the near future.
