Abstract:While President Macron and his party “la République en marche” have been in power during the past two years and a half, the structure of political parties in France haven’t changed much, despite the election of the Senate and the ninth European Parliament election. The middle party is still the dominant force in a quadrupole landscape. However, the balance of power has changed within major parties. La Republique en Marche has strengthened its influence, while the left-wing Socialist Party and the French Communist Party have been severely weakened. They are restructuring their organizations, formulating political lines and guidelines, and determining their alliance and coalition strategies in order to make a comeback. European Eco-Green Party is out of the bottom. Right-wing Republicans and a coalition of democrats and independents have been splitting continuously, and their strength and influence have been severely declining. Traditional voters have drifted away and are looking for a path to recovery. The far-right Front National, weakened by a series of scandals, has been severely divided. But their influence has somewhat grown thanks to the rise of nationalist, populist and extremist ideas. The far-left,La France insoumise has emerged as an independent political force in the 2017 general elections and legislative elections, but its strength and influence have rapidly shrunken due to the party’s scandals and divisions. The current structure of French political parties and evolution of the party strength are in favor of the reforms undertaken by President Macron and his party.
