Abstract:Populism is the political logic that claims vertical leadership，non-institutional authority，and sovereignty by the people. Although some kinds of populism are necessary for political change and reform，populism may also have a serious negative influence. The Brexit and Trump’s electoral victory in 2016 indicated the rise of rightist populism in Europe and the United States，and they even cast a shadow on the entire world. But these two events did not develop into a chain effect. On the contrary，the rightist populist movement was checked and contained by the political establishment. The European establishment adapted itself to confront the challenge of rightist populism and its US counterpart sought to boldly restrict the Trump administration through existing institutions.
