Abstract:As a non-native language widely used in African countries after English and Arabic，French has achieved diverse functions in public affairs，national education and family communication in French-speaking African countries（or regions）. Among 54 countries in Africa，French is the official language（or one of the official languages）or lingua franca in 26 countries. French language and culture have had a profound impact on the culture，education，politics and economy of French-speaking African countries. This paper aims to examine the use of French in some African countries and their language policies. It analyzes the problems and challenges faced by francophone African countries in the process of reviving traditional culture and language practice in the context of globalization.
